NIS America has released the first set of English screenshots for Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention. An upgraded version of the series’ PS3 debut, Disgaea: Absence of Justice, it will launch alongside the PlayStation Vita in Japan. A spring 2012 launch window has been confirmed for North America, which means we won’t have to wait too long to get in on the turn-based and strategical action.

Here’s what you can expect from this revamped title:

Improved graphics
More character close-up shots
Extra chapters
Additional characters
All of the DLC available for the PS3 version

For those who are wondering, the game’s storyline focuses on a character named Mao. He’s the son of a demon overlord, as well as a student at a Netherworld school that is accurately titled, the Evil Academy. Mao wants to take revenge upon his father for the video game systems he destroyed, with a final goal that would see him take the demonic throne. Despite its rather serious and dark plot, Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention will have the series’ signature humor, which its fans can’t get enough of.

The use of colour found in the supplied screenshots is quite impressive. From the looks of it, this could easily be one of the handheld’s best-looking launch window titles.
