‘Sit this one out’: Laura Loomer swears she has a great idea kinda sounds like reeducation camp

This has historically never been a good thing.

Laura Loomer, a far-right activist and commentator, has an idea that she doesn’t realize comes out of the dictator playbook. Loomer posted a tweet suggesting that the United States government should abolish the Department of Education, and it should instead be known as the “Department of Patriotism,” a name that sounds like something straight out of a dystopian novel.

Not only that, but she suggested the building itself be named after Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist who was tragically assassinated just two days ago. It’s a bold move, to be fair, considering her past statements about the very man she now wants to honor with a building. The news comes just after the shocking events of September 10, 2025, when Charlie Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University.

If you’ve ever studied history, you’d know that taking children and feeding them ideas of nationalism and patriotism is not good for a democratic and free society. It was used by Hitler, the Canadians against the natives, pre-WW2 Japan, and even China after the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Laura Loomer wants reeducation camps, because she doesn’t know any better herself

The irony of the situation is just plain obvious since she’s been open about not caring about the deaths of children and running a tip line against Trump officials. The Department of Patriotism sounds like a concept that belongs in a book from George Orwell (and it is), not in real life. However, given the current political climate, it’s not too surprising.

This isn’t the first time Loomer has spoken about Charlie Kirk. A few months ago, she went on a completely different rant about him. In a now very relevant tweet, Loomer went after Kirk in a big way, and the contrast is night and day. She said, “I don’t ever want to hear @charliekirk11 claim he is pro-Trump ever again. After this weekend, I’d say he has revealed himself as a political opportunist and I have had a front row seat to witness the mental gymnastics these last 10 years.”

She went on to call Kirk a “charlatan” who “stabs Trump in the back,” and even claimed that Turning Point USA (TPUSA), which Kirk co-founded, was only able to thrive because of President Trump’s “generosity.” She continued, “TPUSA is definitely not pro-Trump. If they were, they certainly aren’t anymore.” She criticized Kirk for hosting a guest who had called for Trump to be impeached and removed from office, saying, “The honorable thing to do is to have a position and actually defend it to the death instead of flip-flopping.”

Now, just a few months later, and in the wake of his assassination, she is proposing to honor the very man she accused of being a “political opportunist.” Her new idea is a complete flip-flop, and it makes you wonder what’s going on here. On the one hand, her recent tweet suggests a desire to memorialize Kirk as a patriot, but on the other hand, she has publicly accused him of being a disloyal “charlatan.”

A response to her tweet read “You are a hypocrite. Stop the bulls***. You deleted all the negative posts about Charlie. Sit this one out.” Luckily, we were able to find a pretty damning tweet that wasn’t deleted.

You would think that someone who felt so strongly about a person would not be using their name to push a new political idea so soon after their death. While it’s great to see a show of respect, it’s honestly just another example of the kind of nonstop flip-flopping that Loomer herself was disgusted by just a few months ago.
