At their Gamescom 2012 press conference today, Sony announced a new “Cross Buy” program that allows everyone who buys a new PS3 game to get the PS Vita version of that title for free.

Initially, the Cross Buy program will be available for three games; PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, Sly Cooper: Thieves In Time, and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault. This can only been seen as good news for the struggling Vita, and will likely do wonders to convince PS3 owners to purchase the handheld.

Right now it is unclear how the program will work exactly, but we are speculating that PS3 software buyers will find a download code for the Vita version bundled inside their game case.

As soon as exact details of the Cross Buy program are announced we will update this post.
