Spartacus fans rejoice! We finally get our first look at the second season of the show! Going under the title of Spartacus: Vengeance, our hero this time will be played by Liam McIntyre (seen above). McIntyre will replace the star from the first season, Andy Whitfield.

Whitfield was fantastic in the role but had to drop out due to health issues. Due to this, the second season had to be put on hold while the network looked for a new star.

To tide fans over, Starz released an awesome mini-series called Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, that acted as a prequel to Spartacus: Blood and Sand. It was a bit short but provided just as much entertainment and fun as the first season did.

Now we come to Spartcaus: Vengeance, the official second season of the show. Getting ready for its January 2012 premiere, Starz has released some photos and a short teaser to remind fans that the show is still coming and it hasn’t been forgotten.

Aside from Whitfield, most of the other characters will return, including:  Crixus (Manu Bennett), Oenomaus/Doctore (Peter Mensah), Ashur (Nick Tarabay), Claudius Glaber (Craig Parker), Ilithyia (Viva Bianca) and more.

While the absence of Andy Whitfield is unfortunate, I’m still really stoked for season 2 of Spartacus. I love this show, it’s wildly entertaining and is a bloody (no pun intended) good time. It continues to push the limits of what you can show on television but it never feels superfluous or gratuitous, which is thanks to the compelling drama behind it all.

Check out the quick teaser below and get ready for Spartacus: Vengeance.
