The mammoth that is Boardwalk Empire, which is currently the flagship show on HBO, is seemingly unstoppable. The credentials behind it are amazing. Martin Scorsese directed the first episode and stayed on to guide the show as executive producer and the show’s creator is Terence Winter, a writing alumnus from The Sopranos.

So far, the show has cleaned up at most of the award ceremonies. Both the series and its lead star Steve Buscemi picked up Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. The show is also primed for a massive showing at the Emmys. On top of that, it has a second season on the horizon and the teaser trailer for it was released today.

From the look of this brief teaser, the second season will most likely focus on the rivalry between Buscemi’s Nucky Thompson and his former accomplice Jimmy Darmody played by Michael Pitt, as the two compete for business in 1930’s Atlantic City.

I liked the first season a lot and admired the slow burning nature of it more than most did (many feel this will be the show’s downfall when Academy members cast their votes for the Emmys).

From this brief tease, the show looks to be going to some bold places. It showcases Ku Klux Klan members with gattling guns and more amped up violence. The regular cast of the last season will make a return as well as Charlie Cox and William Forsythe joining as regulars. The second season of Boardwalk Empire has no premiere date set as of yet but it is expected to debut in the fall.
