Tenant says neighbors partied until 3 a.m. on weeknights. So before a weekend away, they set speakers against the wall and looped ‘Friday’

A weekend of 'Friday' ended the parties

A Redditor says their neighbors’ late-night parties finally stopped after they looped Rebecca Black’s “Friday” through a shared wall for an entire weekend. User u/ThisSiteostrash detailed the plan in a post shared to Reddit’s r/pettyrevenge community, describing parties that ran as late as 3 AM on weeknights.

The Redditor wrote that conditions at the complex had declined for years amid constant management changes. According to the post, the community lost its gated status, and security deteriorated to the point where police would only respond to reports of violent crime. Noise complaints became a regular part of life, but these neighbors took things to a new level.

The Redditor described parties that sounded like full-scale New Year’s celebrations on random weeknights. After living in the unit for about five years, they contacted the leasing office for several weeks, hoping to handle it through the proper channels, but nothing changed.

The noisy neighbors ended up with a whole weekend on Friday

The Redditor said they also tried to track down the neighbors to ask them to turn the music down. However, the building’s design made the noise impossible to hear from the hallway, even though it was perfectly clear inside the neighboring units. They recorded the noise on their phone as proof, but management still did nothing. Noise disputes like this can escalate quickly, as one woman’s tirade against her noisy neighbors showed.

After a particularly bad weekend of noise, the Redditor decided to fight fire with fire, since weeks of complaints had gone nowhere. Before heading out on a weekend trip to an amusement park, they downloaded a 12-hour loop of the song, set it to repeat in Windows Media Player, and placed a set of speakers directly against the shared wall.

The Redditor said the volume was loud enough to carry through the wall but quiet enough not to bother anyone else. They initially could not remember whether the track was “Friday” or “Baby Shark,” but later updated the post after their wife confirmed it was Black’s viral hit.

When the family returned two days later, the music was still playing exactly as they had left it. The Redditor said the neighbors never caused another disturbance, and management never approached them about the incident. About a month later, a moving truck arrived, and the unit next door stayed silent for several months.

The Redditor said they have not lived in an apartment complex since. The neighbors’ side of the story could not be verified. Other renters have had the opposite problem with management, including a Texas tenant warned over burnt bacon after a neighbor allegedly complained.
