After who knows how many delays, The Flash movie is really, actually, finally, almost, nearly here; we know it will borrow from the Flashpoint storyline and we’ll see at least two versions of Barry Allen. But what fans really want to know is if Grant Gustin will be racing onto the big screen in the upcoming flick.

Gustin played the character of Barry Allen/The Flash in the CW’s serialized adaptation of the comic book hero. Both Ezra Miller and Gustin played the character at the same time, in fact, as Miller was cast just a week after Gustin’s debut in the show’s first episode. The latest season of The Flash is currently airing, the ninth season marks the end of the CW star’s time as the character.

There have been rumors for a while that Gustin would possibly have a cameo appearnce in The Flash movie. Ever since Miller made an appearance in the TV event, Crisis on Infinite Earths, fans began speculating about the possibilities, after all, we knew that the characters had interracted and that travel between the movie universe and TV universe was possible, so it could happen again.

The Flash movie will also be featuring an alternate version of Batman, as Michael Keaton will be reprising his role alongside Ben Affleck. It all seems to suggest that the doors are open for another version of Barry to make an appearance, even if we do already have two versions in the film.

After all the speculation the man himself has had his say on the possibility of an appearance. Gustin sat with TV Line’s Matt Mitovich to discuss his time in the role. The actor was also probed about a potential cameo in the film alongside Miller. Unfortunately for those who had their hopes up to see the small screen Flash leap onto the big screen his answer didn’t leave much room for speculation.

“There’s been a lot of rumors out there for a long time and no one’s like come out directly and asked me like ever like you know on the record […] people ask me on the street all the time and um yeah I’m not keeping some big elaborate secret.”

So that’s the bad news, the good news is we still have Grant Gustin on our screen for a few more weeks yet as The Flash season finale is set to premiere on May 24th. From there it’s only a few more weeks until Ezra Miller’s big screen Flash hits theaters in their one and only solo movie as the character.

If Gustin has any future projects in the works after The Flash, he’s certainly kept quiet about them. Meanwhile, Miller will probably still be busy mopping up the messes of their reputation-tanking run-ins with the law last year.

The Flash is set to hit theaters June 16.
