By this point, us telling you that DC’s upcoming The Flash will be dealing with multiversal mayhem and time travel is like telling you that water is wet. However, an eagle-eyed fan of director Andy Muschetti’s previous works has made a pretty astounding and meta observation that essentially creates a pocket ‘Muschetti-verse.’
Reddit user u/ Rman823 over on the DC Cinematic subreddit was recently treating themselves to a viewing of Muschetti’s big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s It, and noticed that the cinema in the background of a shot in the town of Derry was advertising Tim Burton’s original 1989 Batman film.
Of course, we likely don’t need to spell out the link for you – as we already know from the first few trailers for the film, Burton’s iteration of The Caped Crusader, Michael Keaton, will be once again donning his cowl and making a triumphant return to the character’s boots for the first time since the early 90’s in Muschetti’s upcoming The Flash.
Whether or not Muschetti was aware of what he would be doing in the DC Universe at that point in time or not, it’s nevertheless some pretty awesome foreshadowing, despite King’s novel and the DC storyline he is adapting having nothing to do with one another, besides coming from the same distributor. Although, we have to admit, we’d pay good money to see Pennywise throw down with the Justice League.
The Flash finally arrives in theaters on June 16. All in all, it was well-received by CinemaCon attendees – who were treated to an unfinished cut of the film which didn’t contain any post-credits scenes.
