The trailer for The Summer I Turned Pretty is finally here, and one thing is spelled out quite plainly throughout it; loss and the heartbreak and life-altering changes that happen after the person you love most in the world is no longer there. The Fisher and Conklin families will deal with the most devastating blow of all when we meet them for our second summer together, and we’re not quite sure what the future looks like without one of their most beloved.

The first season of Jenny Han’s book-turned-series introduced us to some of our most well-loved pop culture characters: the Fisher and Conklin families, focusing specifically on the coming-of-age story happening within the heart and mind of Belly. Of course, another important focus of the series was the friendship between Susannah and Laurel, and their bond is an ode to true friendship, but the relationship we couldn’t get our minds off of throughout the last year is a love triangle.

Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah — a love triangle so iconic it rivals the greats of Twilight (Bella, Edward, and Jake,) One Tree Hill (Peyton, Lucas, and Brooke,) and The Vampire Diaries (Elena, Damon, and Stefan). Belly has loved Conrad since before she knew the true meaning of the word, and the thing is, she’s loved Jeremiah, too — something she realizes during the summer that changed everything.

At first, that love was more of a profound friendship, but now both Fisher boys have their hearts set on Belly, and she’s seen the best in both of them, too. The thing is, we’re Team Conrad all the way — and we don’t really know you couldn’t be.

During season two, we’ll see changed versions of the characters we loved last summer, and we’ll see them as they’ve weathered more loss and heartache but also more joy and magic — and we can’t wait to see that Welcome to Cousins sign. New episodes of The Summer I Turned Pretty begin airing on July 14 on Prime Video, so get ready for a lot of love, heartache, and healing.
