‘There’s nothing we can do’: Husband orders a ‘regular margarita’, but the price on the receipt leaves his wife speechless

They should've warned about the price upfront.

A woman’s honeymoon dinner turned shocking when her husband ordered a “regular margarita” and got charged $280. TikToker Chessy shared this story as a warning to always check drink prices at expensive restaurants. Chessy and her husband were celebrating their honeymoon at San Ysidro Ranch, a fancy hotel in Montecito, California. The hotel moved their outdoor dinner inside because of a private event, so the couple had extra time and decided to grab drinks while enjoying the property.

When the server came, Chessy ordered a blood orange margarita. Her husband wanted something simple and asked for a “regular margarita,” thinking he was getting a standard version of his wife’s drink. They were having fun, so Chessy gave the server her card right away to pay before their dinner started.

Five minutes later, the server came back with the receipt. “I’m looking at the receipt, and I see that it’s for $305,” Chessy said, according to Bro Bible. She thought the server brought the wrong bill, but the server said the charge was correct. The “regular margarita” was made with Don Julio 1942, a very expensive tequila.

The couple faced pushback when questioning the astronomical drink charge

Chessy was upset but stayed polite. She told the server it wasn’t her fault but asked to send the drink back since they didn’t know the price. The manager came over and handled things poorly at first. Just like how mechanics sometimes spot ignored warning signs, customers often miss red flags at restaurants.

The manager refused to help. “She’s like, ‘There’s nothing we can do. You ordered it,'” Chessy recalled in her TikTok video. This was terrible customer service for a honeymoon couple. After some back and forth, the manager agreed to refund half the drink and brought free appetizers and drinks to cover the rest.

The next day, Chessy checked her bank and saw the half-refund never went through. She emailed the general manager right away to explain what happened. The GM called her, apologized, and refunded the full $280. He admitted his staff forgot what normal money means for one cocktail.

“They’re used to waiting on people like Jeff Bezos,” Chessy says the GM explained. “People who are paying $10,000 a night for these cottages. I think they forget that $280 is an insane amount for a drink.” People online had strong reactions to the story.

One commenter said, “in WHAT world would ‘regular’ indicate $280.” Another wrote, “Shame on the server shame on the manager horrible customer service. The server should have made sure because why the fuck would someone casually order a $200+ cocktail.”

Others shared their own experiences. One person said, “bruhhh a don julio 1942 marg where I work is $48 …. Their up charge is insane!!!!” Another user revealed, “I almost ordered the 2000 martini that comes with tennis bracelet in Miami.” Diners should watch out for sneaky restaurant billing tricks that inflate costs, as servers should always confirm orders when prices are unusually high to avoid these problems.
