‘They’re going after families and children’: Karen Bass hits back against Trump as L.A. curfew shuts down city

Democrats reel as Trump tightens his grip on Los Angeles.

Los Angeles is now under Trump control. 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines are patroling the streets to keep the unhappy citizens in line. Furious Democrat leaders have been demanding they depart the city, but it seems they’re here to stay for the foreseeable future to squash any dissent against the Trump regime.

Mayor Karen Bass is furious, blaming ICE agents for needlessly inflaming an already tense situation and Trump for exploiting people’s anger. In an interview with MSNBC, she laid out her grievances, saying it was always a lie that ICE would be targeting violent criminals. Instead they’re scooping up anyone even suspected of being in the country illegally, which effectively means Hispanic people with accents.

They’re separating families, denying people access to legal representation, and denying contact with the outside world:

Bass went on to impose a curfew on the downtown area, making it off-limits to citizens from 8pm to 6am this morning. But, sadly, while the city can apparently act against its own people, they’re powerless against Trump.

Trump tightens his grip

A federal district court judge declined California’s request for an immediate temporary restraining order barring Trump’s troops from doing anything other guarding federal buildings. Meanwhile, Trump himself vowed to tighten his grip on the city, describing it as a “trash heap” and vowing to “liberate” it.

It’s unknown exactly what that means, but given that Trump’s intense and vocal dislike of Gavin Newsom has evolved into an open call for the Governor to be arrested, it’s possible Trump may be considering whether to roll the dice on direct federal control of Los Angeles that overrules the state legislature. If we go down that path, we’re squarely in “potential civil war” territory, so here’s hoping things rapidly calm down.

Whatever else happens, it’s clear that Trump wants Los Angeles to be an example to other Democrat-controlled cities of what will happen if they step out of line. ICE tactical units are currently heading to five other Democrat cities to wreak the same havoc they did in Los Angeles, meaning events may culminate in mass chaos over the rest of the week, just in time for Trump’s lavish birthday parade through the streets of Washington, DC.
