Trump’s DOJ told New Mexico to halt the Epstein ranch probe in 2019, says Rep. Comer. And now? The investigation’s back

Turns out the story wasn’t over.

New Mexico authorities are searching Jeffrey Epstein‘s Zorro Ranch again. The property is linked to serious allegations against the convicted child sex predator. This comes after a federal investigation into the ranch was reportedly shut down in 2019.

Rep. James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky and chair of the House Oversight Committee, revealed that President Trump’s Department of Justice asked New Mexico investigators to stop their probe into the property back in 2019. He made this statement during an appearance on Jesse Watters Prime Time.

According to Mediaite, the Zorro Ranch was a central location in many of the allegations against Epstein and his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell. Victims have repeatedly claimed they were trafficked at the ranch.

The DOJ’s 2019 order to halt the investigation raises serious concerns about how Epstein avoided prosecution for so long

“The federal government asked New Mexico to stop their investigation, I believe, back in 2019 of that ranch,” Comer stated. He added that there are “just so many questions about how the government failed the victims and how government failed in trying to prosecute Epstein sooner.” He also said the “whole thing doesn’t make sense.”

Epstein died of an apparent suicide in 2019 while incarcerated and awaiting sex trafficking charges. Comer acknowledged the “conspiracy theories on how Epstein was able to get away with it,” asking, “Was it because he had powerful friends? Was it because he was an agent? We don’t know, but we’re gonna find out and I’m glad that they’re on the ground now in New Mexico searching that property.”

Trump has also been making waves on other foreign policy fronts, with his predictions about Cuba’s political future drawing significant attention. When pressed for details about which branch of government issued the order, Comer pointed to the DOJ.

“It was the Department of Justice, I believe,” he confirmed. “And I believe it was because they had– I believe, it perhaps was Southern District of New York because they had taken over the investigation at that point.”

He said these are exactly the kinds of questions they want answers to. The federal government stepping in to stop a local investigation into a property so central to Epstein’s alleged crimes has long frustrated victims who have sought justice.

Trump’s approach to international affairs has also drawn criticism, including his threats toward the UK over Iran war refusal raising questions about his diplomatic style. With New Mexico authorities now back on the ground searching the ranch, more answers about the halted 2019 investigation and Epstein’s ability to avoid prosecution for so long may finally come to light.
