Like the zombie virus which has turned its enemies into walking cadavers, Dead Island has suffered from an unfortunate set of plague-like issues since its release last week. Techland has promised that it’s hard at work on a patch for the PS3 version, announcing today that a fix for the XBOX 360 version of the game has already gone live. The PC version has also been updated, receiving the fixes present in the aforementioned patch for Microsoft‘s console.
This great effort to fix the game’s problems may result in a delay for its upcoming downloadable content packs.
A representative from Deep Silver, the game’s publisher, had this to say:
“[Fixes are in progress] across all platforms so that we can take care of all of the fans who have been so supportive of our game. There is some awesome DLC content planned for Dead Island, but first we have to put all our focus on the base game experience.”
The patches should fix multiplayer connection issues, autosave glitches and some other more minor problems. The PS3 version of the game will get the patch “as soon as possible,” according to the publishing representative.
The Bloodbath Arena pack is the first of two announced downloadable content packs for the game. It’s scheduled for a late September release, so we hope the work on these fixes will not bump that up too much. Though, I’d be the first to say that fixing previous issues is more important than releasing timely DLC.
In related news, Deep Silver has emphatically revealed that Dead Island shipped one million copies to retail in its first week. It’s expected that the number will double within the next week or so.
