A bizarre situation happened recently in Florida, where police arrested Michael Stanek, 57, from Welaka, for driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph on a Palm Coast highway.

No, he wasn’t speeding away from the scene of the crime or rushing to the hospital because a pregnant woman was in labor in the backseat of his car. When questioned by deputies, Stanek nonchalantly explained that he was rushing to a barber appointment. This admission, captured on body camera footage, has since gone viral.

The speeding incident

It happened on September 23, 2025, when a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputy clocked Stanek driving at 107 mph on Interstate 95. The deputy’s body camera recorded the interaction, where Stanek was asked, “Why were you going so fast?” His response: “I have an appointment with my barber.” The deputy proceeded to arrest Stanek for dangerous excessive speeding, a charge under Florida’s “super speeder” law, which penalizes drivers exceeding 100 mph or 50 mph over the speed limit.

Following his arrest, Stanek was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and later released on a $150 bond. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office emphasized Stanek’s actions endangered other motorists by weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds.
