As if there weren’t already enough promising Scandinavian producers, it’s safe to say that CLMD is an artist to watch. The Oslo, Norway-based progressive house up-and-comer has released his latest song, “Phoenix,” alongside a superbly executed music video.
The pillowy synth melodies of “Phoenix” are accompanied by breathy vocals by Frøder, who also hails from Norway (where those slashed Os aren’t exclusively used to make singers’ stage names look cooler). Being that the track doesn’t fall into the category of future, deep, melodic or tropical house, it makes for a less contrived departure from the main stage formula than what many contemporary electronic music artists have put out lately.
The understated elements of the video accompany the song well. Nearly every frame could almost double as a Warholian pop art piece for its use of high-contrast silhouettes against solid colors.
