Why are Swifties ‘done’ with Taylor Swift following her third Nashville show on the Eras Tour?

Taylor Swift's third show in Nashville drew a wide range of emotional reactions from her fans

There’s a lot of talk about Taylor Swift and the final night of her Nashville concert on Twitter, so it’s no surprise that she’s trending once more thanks to her very vocal fans, the Swifties, who, due to bad weather, had to wait for over four hours while waiting for the concert to start. Swift had earlier in the day cautioned her dedicated supporters about the weather, tweeting, “I know there’s talk of a rainy weather vibe tonight, but I’m ready to play.”

However, due to the lengthy delay, many fans had to leave their seats and seek refuge in the stadium concourses. Even though those in attendance were still enthusiastic, several Swifties at home expressed their frustration that the event was full of surprises (such as new songs and special guests) that they didn’t get to see.

The surprising songs that got Swifties going berserk

The rain couldn’t dampen Taylor Swift’s spirits, so she treated her patient fans to a performance of her new single, “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve.” Swift, who varies her Eras Tour setlist with a “surprise song” segment each night, played the coveted song much to the dismay of Swifites back home, with one Twitter user @jammed_paperbag saying, “I’ve genuinely never been this seriously upset about not being there for a song.”

The singer even brought out the song’s producer, Aaron Dessner of The National, to help her perform it, which must have been a bitter pill for the Swifties at home to swallow. According to Variety, Swift and Dessner have been working together since making Folklore in 2020, and their collaboration has given Swift’s songs an indie flavor.

With Dessner gone, Swift took to the piano to provide the lyrical backdrop for the second surprise track, “Mine,” for no other reason than to emphasize that the song is not about her. After announcing over the weekend that her next re-recorded “Taylor’s Version” album would be “Speak Now” from 2010, the singer’s performance of “Mine,” a single from that album, pumped up the crowd while with the Swifties at home seethed. One fan, a Twitter user named @xirfiy, wrote, “She’s canceled bc she played mine without me there :(.”

Swifties’ emotional reactions to the event

Swifties went through a rush of emotions during the Nashville finale. There was a wide range of reactions, from joy at seeing Swift play in her hometown to despair at the non-stop rains, nostalgia at hearing their favorite songs performed live to envy from others who couldn’t be there.

Emotional Swifties took to social media to share their thoughts and feelings about the performances, including @_Daniel_Wharton, who tweeted, “thank you for an absolutely amazing show last night in Nashville! All of my wildest dreams were exceeded,” and @AvKv85, who wrote, “The folklore section of the show was definitely a highlight for me.”

Even those who claimed to be “done” with their fave were left with a bittersweet sense after the concert concluded and the lights went down, finally content in the knowledge that “mine” was not about anyone.
