Woman parks rental car at hotel and wakes up at 4 a.m. for her flight, then the valet does something that almost ruins everything

This is literally every traveler's horror story.

A woman named Mik shared on TikTok that she almost missed her flight because the hotel lost her rental car keys after she used their valet parking service. She woke up at 4 a.m. to catch her 5:40 a.m. flight, but the hotel staff couldn’t find her keys when she tried to leave. Her video showing her waiting impatiently in the lobby got over 109,700 views.

In a follow-up video on TikTok, Mik explained that she barely made it to her flight, arriving just one minute before boarding started. “We made it to the destination, so I made my flight. I literally made it to my flight one minute before boarding. I don’t know how I made it,” she revealed, according to Motor1

Mik thinks the valet worker put the keys in her pocket because the rental car had a push-to-start ignition. The car was still in the parking lot the whole time, and it was returned a few hours later after everything was sorted out.

The hotel didn’t compensate her for the trouble

Some people who saw Mik’s videos said the hotel should have given her something for the inconvenience, like a free stay or money. One commenter who works in hotels said they would have offered both. However, Mik said she got nothing because the valet company was a third-party service, not run directly by the hotel.

Many viewers criticized Mik for waking up too late for her flight. They said waking up at 4 a.m. for a 5:40 a.m. flight didn’t leave enough time. One person suggested she should have been at the airport by 3:40 a.m., which is two hours before departure. This isn’t the only valet parking mishap that has gone viral recently, as one man backed into his wife’s car while denying he hit someone else’s vehicle.

Other commenters disagreed and said 4 a.m. was plenty of time for a 5:40 a.m. flight. They said people who criticized her timing probably don’t fly often. One commenter advised Mik that next time she should call the rental car company, have them pick up the car from the hotel, take a cab to the airport, and make the hotel pay for everything.

Travel experts usually recommend arriving at the airport two hours before a domestic flight. This gives you enough buffer time if something goes wrong. However, some people think this two-hour rule is too much, especially if you have TSA PreCheck, only carry-on bags, or are flying from a small airport. Speaking of rental cars, some drivers have shared their tips for maintaining vehicles for over 300,000 miles, which could help avoid breakdowns during trips.

Airlines and security experts like TSA spokesperson Lisa Farbstein support the two-hour rule. But experienced travelers who want to avoid waiting at the airport can arrive later if they have expedited security and no checked bags, though this is riskier during busy travel times.
