Zohran Mamdani has only been the Mayor of New York City for one day, and criminals are already fleeing in terror from him! Okay, well, to be precise one criminal has fled, but as far as rats go, it’s a big one!
Disgraced former Congressman George Santos has confirmed that, as of today, he’s officially “no longer a New York City resident”:
I am officially no longer a New York City resident. 💔
— George Santos (@Georgesantos) January 2, 2026
Santos has the dubious distinction of being one of the few members of the House of Representatives ever to be expelled from office without having been convicted of a crime (or supporting the Confederacy). Following his expulsion, he pleaded guilty to identity theft and wire fraud, and was promptly sentenced to 87 months behind bars.
This stemmed from his claiming government benefits he didn’t need, falsifying financial disclosure reports, and defrauding his supporters of donations. But he’s a Republican, so naturally Donald Trump commuted his sentence and ensured he was released from prison immediately.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
But it seems that Santos is scurrying away from Mamdani’s Manhattan as fast as his little legs can carry him. Now, we don’t know that Mamdani assuming power is the direct cause for Santos deciding that now’s the time to get out of town, but comments certainly make the connection:
Zohran is already getting rid of the criminals. Amazing!

Good to see Mayor Mamdani is already getting the trash out of NYC one day in.

Wow Mamdani actually is tough on criminals

It’s unclear where Santos is scurrying to, though we’d bet that Florida is a safe bet. After his pardon Santos presumably knows which side his bread is buttered on, so perhaps there’s an opening for a busboy at Mar-a-Lago he can fill?
In the meantime, Mamdani has already been hard at work undoing the mess his predecessor Eric Adams left him. One of his first acts in office was to issue an executive order revoking all of Adams’ executive orders implemented since Sept. 26 2024 – the day the former mayor was indicted for massive corruption.
So, all in all, a fresh start and a bright new morning for New York City – which will be all the more pleasant now that George Santos is elsewhere. Good riddance!
