47 furious Israeli tourists trapped in Bosnia after passports trashed, security footage shows the bizarre truth

It’s not a great time to be an Israeli tourist. After all, whatever someone’s personal opinion on Gaza might be, their country committing a genocide just isn’t a good look internationally. As such there have been multiple recent incidents of Israeli tourists arriving in foreign countries and the locals refusing to serve or entertain them.

In July 1,500 Israeli cruise ship passengers were prevented from leaving their ship in Crete by a crowd of angry Greeks, the Maldives has announced a full-on ban on Israeli passport holders in solidarity with Palestine, and Thailand and the Philippines are vowing to crack down on Israeli visitors after a spate of disruptive and violent behavior.

All of which means when 47 Israelis discovered their passports had somehow disappeared during a visit to a hotel in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, many assumed foul play was at hand. Furious responses quickly accused the hoteliers of an antisemitic incident, with the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem putting the Israeli embassy in Belgrade on the case.

The passports were eventually discovered in the nearby rubbish dump, further raising suspicions that this was a deliberate act of sabotage by a hotel worker eager to ruin their vacation. Now we know the truth of what happened, and if there weren’t video, you’d never believe it was true.

What actually happened

CCTV of the hotel lobby shows the exact moment the passports ended up in the trash. But it wasn’t a sneaky hotel worker at fault, they literally just happened to accidentally tumble into the bin without anyone noticing:

So, bad luck and gravity are to blame for this one. And, if you think about it, a hotel worker getting revenge by disposing of Israeli passports doesn’t really make sense as a plan anyway. After all, this will only ensure the people you dislike are going to stick around for longer in your hotel, likely getting more and more unpleasant and angry as the days tick by.

Even so, if you’re an Israeli looking to vacation overseas, maybe just come to Trump’s United States. After all, it’s perhaps one place in the world where everyone doesn’t utterly despise your country for its ongoing crimes against humanity.
