6 months after Georgia mother was kept on life support to deliver baby the child is still in hospital and the family needs support

The child of Adriana Smith is unfortunately not doing well.

Earlier this year the case of Adriana Smith shocked and disturbed everyone in the U.S. While the controversial decision was heavily criticized online, it has now been six months since she prematurely gave birth to a baby boy, but what is the condition of this child now? Is he healthy? Was it all worth it?

For those not in the know, Adriana Smith was a woman from Georgia who died from a brain clot after doctors misdiagnosed her symptoms. Smith was two months pregnant at the time and due to the abortion laws in Georgia, doctors legally had to keep her on life support until they could deliver the unborn child

This was no doubt a somewhat traumatizing experience for Smith’s family as they not only had to deal with the grief of losing Adriana, but they also had to witness her body being forcibly kept alive so that the child could have a shot at life.

This is what pro-lifers wanted right?

Of course, many pro-lifers would likely defend such an outrageous scenario. After all, it was the decision to repeal Roe v. Wade that allowed this to happen in the first place. The U.S. as a whole has shifted towards prioritizing the child’s life over the rights of the mother for some time now and so cases like this may not be a one-off occurrence.

Anyways, public interest in the case seemed to wane after the baby was delivered and Adriana’s life support switched off. But for those who are curious, the baby, whose name is Chance, has survived, but he is struggling and his family have confirmed that he has been in the NICU for the past six months. Unfortunately, doctors have already confirmed they won’t be able to take him home for Christmas.

The child, who was born prematurely and weighed just 1lb 13oz as per CNN, “will suffer disease which will lead to major disabilities,” according to a GoFundMe which the family have since set up. Chance’s grandmother, April Newkirk has been posting updates but has admitted to feeling “very down,” due to the bad news and apparent lack of support from the state.

There is nothing to indicate that the state of Georgia is paying for the baby, which is likely why the family have a GoFundMe in the first place, pro-lifers tend to stop caring once the baby is actually born.

“No one is paying for that baby but the family,” says TikToker @mewnstone, in a video about the situation posted online. Despite forcing Adriana’s brain dead body to carry the baby to term, the state no longer cares about the life of that child even when it seems to be suffering.
