A viral video appeared to show a Trump cabinet member reaching for her posterior. But the congresswoman just shrugged it off: ‘Went for a high five’

Mediaite reports that Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna crossed paths onstage at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas. A clip from that moment later spread online after it appeared to show Turner reaching toward Luna’s backside.

The exchange took place on the opening day of President Donald Trump’s two-day event in Texas. Turner was stepping off the stage as Luna approached it. While they passed, Turner put his hand out low, in the direction of Luna’s rear. The clip of the incident went viral online, with many speculating that Turner had grabbed Luna’s buttocks.

On Monday, MeidasTouch’s Pablo Manríquez asked about Luna about the incident directly. “Did Scott [Turner] pat you on the b–t in Dallas?” he asked. Luna answered, “Oh my goodness.”

She said: “I actually was walking towards, at that point, to speak, so I didn’t even see that until after the fact, and one could only assume that maybe it was just a – he played football, you know?” Unexpected political reactions can take many forms, as when John Fetterman made a surprise video appearance at the GOP convention.

Turner played nine seasons in the NFL as a cornerback. His teams included the Washington Redskins, now the Washington Commanders, the San Diego Chargers, now the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Denver Broncos.

Luna confirmed that Turner’s hands did not touch her posterior and suggested he might have wanted to go for a high five. “There was no contact,” she said. “I think that he’s obviously a former football player, and maybe went for a high-five. I don’t know.”

She also said, “there was no contact.” Luna continued, “I think that he’s obviously a former football player, and maybe went for a high five. I don’t know.”

Online reaction followed quickly. The Bulwark’s Sam Stein watched the clip and said, through laughter, “He looks like he’s about to slap her a–!” He also said, “He almost got into some serious trouble there.”

After looking at the same footage in slow motion, Stein said his first take still stood. “No, he did not go for a handshake,” he stated. The moment sparked widespread discussion online, a phenomenon seen in other viral political clips, such as an RNC speaker’s claim about God giving us Trump.
