Adam Kinzinger shocked Donald Trump had it in him to be even more disgusting, but clearly he underestimated the president

Donald Trump’s domineering presence in the Republican Party has been so impossible to overlook that you might somehow forget that there are people within the party who have been vocal critics of his various political missteps. None of those voices has been quite as unshakeable as Adam Kinzinger, and Trump’s latest alleged letter to Jeffrey Epstein was a step too far even for his already low regard for President Trump.

Now, allegations against Trump for being buddies with Epstein have been around for years, and the president has spent his time going back and forth on his attempts to either bury the accusations or threaten to get the shady case investigated properly to clear his name. Safe to say the publication of this alleged letter has not done him any favors.

Trump has been accused of sending a rather lewd letter to Epstein on his 50th birthday. In the midst of renewed Epstein interest, this is a very serious allegation because it does seem to suggest that Trump was close to the convicted pedophile. And his insistence that it’s a non-issue that everyone should forget because it’s “boring” certainly makes matters worse.

Trump has recently called the allegations lies and has already moved to court, filing an 18-page lawsuit against The Wall Street Journal and asking for a preposterous $20 billion. With concern already growing among fans of Stephen Colbert — some of them peers and some politicians — who are of the opinion that Trump suing Paramount led to the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

Most Republicans, however, have chosen to stay silent. Much like when they were criticizing the Trump megabill, they fell in line and voted for it anyway when the time came because Trump can very easily make his entire base turn on them, and that could be the end of their time in office. This has not been the case with Adam Kinzinger.

Kinzinger was one of the two Republicans who took Trump to task for his Jan. 6 alleged incitement. Per Politico, he told Trump defiantly that he wasn’t afraid of him when Trump was threatening the former congressman with jail time for being a member of the Jan. 6 committee. But despite all that, Kinzinger took to X and has criticized the president again amid the ongoing Washington Post exposé, saying that this is the most disgusted Trump has ever made him. It says a lot when Trump manages to shock someone, else a person who has been a loud and constant critic of the president and keeps a track of his past and present scandals.

When the Republican Party overwhelmingly voted to censure Kinzinger due to his participation in the committee, Kinzinger warned the entire party, saying, “The Republican Party used to believe in a big tent, which welcomed the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Now we shelter the ignorant, the racists, who only stoke anger and hatred to those that are different than us.”

It couldn’t have been said any better. Adam Kinzinger once stood alone, but as time goes by and more details on Trump’s style of leadership come out, he’s starting to lose former loyalists even beyond politics. Sometimes it’s good to stand for more than just self-preservation.

Hopefully, The Wall Street Journal will actually stand its ground and leave the courts to decide on whether Trump actually wrote Epstein that letter or not. If they went to print regardless of his usual threats and petty tendencies, they better have evidence to back their claims.
