Candace Owens has shared alleged audio from a zoom meeting which appears to show Erika Kirk laughing and talking business mere days after the death of her husband, Charlie Kirk. Owens, a far-right political commentator, suggested that the audio was “off putting” and has even stated in the past that she does not believe the narrative that Charlie was killed by Tyler Robinson.
Owens has been quite vocal with spreading conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Charlie Kirk and this alleged audio is seemingly being used to further push ideas that Charlie was murdered in a secret military operation which is being covered up.
In the audio clip we can hear Erika discussing the future of Turning Point USA as the new head of the organization. Erika greets those in the call in a cheerful, upbeat tone, “Hi everybody, I still love all these emojis, zoom, haha, things.” It certainly doesn’t sound like somebody who’s grieving the death of her husband.
She then goes on to talk about a successful event organized by TPUSA, celebrating the fact that “We’re at like over 200,000 for merch sales.” Now, everybody grieves differently, but discussing business sales and celebrating in such a way less than two weeks after the death of her husband seems a little suspicious which is no doubt exactly why Candace Owens chose to publicly share the audio.
She does mention the death of her husband but there’s little noticeable emotion in her voice as she plainly states, “my husband is dead. Like, I’m not trying to be morbid, but he’s dead.”
Was the audio shared by Candace Owens genuine?
While the audio shared by Owens is certainly damning, many have already expressed their skepticism over the authenticity of the clip. One individual on Reddit noted it was very “on the nose” with regards to how uncaring Erika comes across but stated that it wasn’t “AI slop.”
Analysing the audio, Owens notes that “it is the general tone that is off putting, it is the laughter that is off putting.” She goes on to conclude that Erika’s attitude is one of a person who “had no sort of the type of relationship that she had with him.” She accuses her of moving “pretty quickly to the acceptance phase.”
Erika does sound somewhat happy in the alleged audio clips shared by Owens. Does this prove her theory that Charlie was assassinated in a military operation? No. But if the audio is real then it certainly does reflect rather poorly on Erika Kirk and her apparent lack of grief. But again, grief affects people in different ways, so who’s to say she’s faking her grief? Owens is hardly the most reliable person to trust in this scenario.
