Dan Bongino is ‘furious,’ Trump’s former favorite says he is going to walk away from FBI over Epstein files

A political firestorm is brewing inside the FBI over the Jeffrey Epstein files, and reports say conservative commentator-turned-federal official Dan Bongino may be ready to walk away from his role as Deputy Director of the FBI.

According to growing speculation, Bongino is outraged over how Attorney General Pam Bondi has handled public demands for transparency, and he’s not alone.

Laura Loomer’s post

Seeming to have an insider scoop, far-right mouthpiece and Trump ally Laura Loomer shared a message on X alleging internal chaos and potential resignations. “SCOOP: @FBIDirectorKash and @dbongino are LIVID with @AGPamBondi over her DOJ Memo and the lack of transparency from her office regarding the Jeffery Epstein files,” she wrote.

Citing a source, Loomer claimed that Bongino “is taking the day off today from his job as Deputy Director of the FBI,” and said “there’s now speculation on whether or not he will return to his job at the @FBI over his disgust with Blondi’s lack of transparency and handling of the Epstein files.”

Loomer added that Bondi has “brought total embarrassment to President Trump, @JDVance, @dbongino and @Kash_Patel,” and went further by accusing her of lying to the American public. “I’m told Kash and Bongino are furious with Blondi and the blowback she has caused them,” Loomer wrote, demanding that they “call for Blondi’s public resignation today to save themselves and to also push for full transparency into the Epstein files.”

In her view, “this is an issue the American people care deeply about.” She concluded: “Someone needs to be fired for this. Giving Blondi courtesy to resign is more than she deserves. Trump should just FIRE her.”

The DOJ Epstein memo

Loomer’s post follows days of public outcry over a Justice Department memo that formally debunked the widely circulated conspiracy theory about an Epstein “client list.” The memo, released in early July, states that the FBI found no such list, no credible blackmail operation, and reaffirmed that Epstein died by suicide in 2019.

It also stated there is no new evidence to release, which directly contradicts claims Bondi made earlier this year. In February, Bondi said she had Epstein materials on her desk and promised transparency, suggesting the American people deserve the truth.

Meanwhile, Patel and Bongino greeted controversy months before the DOJ memo when they more or less confirmed Bondi’s claim regarding Epstein’s suicide.

Is Bongino done?

Loomer is not a reliable source of information. But mainstream outlets, including Axios, have confirmed that Bongino did take a day off following a tense meeting at the White House earlier this week.

A senior official told Axios that while Bongino did not show up to work Friday, he is “still on the job.” However, one administration insider reportedly said, “he ain’t coming back.” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told Axios that the memo reflected the views of himself, Bondi, Bongino, and Patel, presenting it as a unified conclusion.

Despite Loomer’s dramatic language, no official resignations have occurred, and there’s no public statement from Bongino or FBI Director Patel suggesting Bondi should step down. The Epstein files remain a politically hot-button issue, and whether Bongino returns to his post may signal how serious the rift inside Trump’s law enforcement circle truly is.
