‘Deafening boos’: Visibly uncomfortable Trump drowned out by jeers of mocking crowd at Commanders game

Maybe they're saying Boo-nald?

You’d think Donald Trump would be used to being booed by now. Broadcasters are well aware of what’s going to happen when he’s shown on a Jumbotron, ready and waiting to cut mics to the crowd and pipe in generic applause.

Perhaps most notably, in Feb. 2025, Trump became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. The reaction was mixed, but even friendly reports were forced to note “a smattering of boos”. Then, in September he appeared at the U.S. Open to be met with a crowd annoyed at him for delaying the game by 45 minutes.

But all of that pales in comparison with what happened during Sunday’s NFL game between the Washington Commanders and Detroit Lions. During a break in the game, Trump took the microphone to read an oath for members of the military to recite as part of a bizarre on-field enlistment ceremony

The crowd had something else to say about that – and they said it loudly!

The sheer volume of these boos means they can’t simply be edited out for broadcast. That’s going to annoy both Trump and Fox News, as (if the directive from his U.S. Open appearance is anything to go by) broadcasters are ordered to “refrain from showcasing any disruptions or reactions in response to the president’s attendance in any capacity.” Why? Well, it might hurt Trump’s feelings, of course!

Boo this man!

Reactions are generally jubilant:

Others noted that Trump appeared to be having trouble reading aloud, theorizing that Trump has “forgotten how to read” and that this is “brutal”:

By this point, Trump really should be used to this kind of treatment. Even his ego won’t let him believe that all Americans worship the ground he walks on, and he knows there are millions of haters out there. Even so, a whole stadium projecting hatred your way can’t feel great.

If you do happen to want a little ray of light in your day, just remember that wherever and whenever Trump is exposed to the general public (and not just his MAGA devotees), he will be booed. That’ll be the case for the rest of his life and while it’s hardly justice for his many sins, we can only hope he momentarily feels bad.
