Democrats use ‘new precedent’ to challenge Oversight Republicans’ ‘seriousness’ and demand Trump’s testimony

They see the opportunity to hoped Trump and his administration accountable for a variety of concerns.

House Democrats are already mapping out an aggressive strategy for investigating Donald Trump‘s administration next year, if they manage to flip the House majority in the November midterms. This includes a plan to compel testimony from Trump, investigate Pam Bondi and other Trump administration activities, and even kick off impeachment proceedings against Kristi Noem.

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-California) stated that if he gets to lead the House Oversight Committee, a Democratic majority would “absolutely” go after an interview with President Trump. The focus? His past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

Per the Washington Post, Garcia believes the GOP-led committee actually set “a new precedent” by deposing Bill Clinton about his relationship with Epstein just recently. “We want to talk to the president, and so there’s a long list of subpoenas that we will be engaged in,” Garcia noted, pointing directly at Trump.

It isn’t just Trump, they want to go after his team

Democrats on the House Judiciary and Homeland Security committees are convinced there’s enough evidence to pursue impeachment against Kristi Noem. Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-Mississippi) called it “malpractice” if Democrats didn’t impeach Noem, predicting success if they gain the majority. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) even described Noem’s handling of the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good as “undoubtedly a high crime and a misdemeanor.”

Reps. Ted Lieu (D-California) and Dan Goldman (D-New York), have already asked for a special counsel to investigate Pam Bondi. They allege she might have committed perjury regarding the release of the Epstein case files. Bondi, for her part, strongly denies these accusations and claims “there is no evidence” Trump committed a crime, despite reports about some Epstein-related files being withheld from Congress.

The investigative net stretches even wider. Following recent operations against the Iranian government, leading Democrats on the House Armed Services Committee are eager to scrutinize Trump’s use of the military. Rep. Adam Smith (Washington), admitted his list of targets “grows by the week, sometimes by the day.”

Democrats are also looking into potential emoluments clause violations, examining various gifts and business deals involving Trump, like the $10 billion lawsuit Trump filed against the federal government over a leak of his tax returns, and the UAE stake in his family’s crypto business. Raskin believes these investigations could lead to stricter reporting requirements for Congress. He also believes that the Epstein files will help investigate human trafficking.

White House officials, however, are dismissive. Spokeswoman Abigail Jackson stated that Trump is focused on policies that improve American lives, like “passing massive tax cuts for working Americans to urging Congress to prevent corporations from purchasing single-family homes.” She added that Democrats “have no agenda for the American people, just plans to target the Administration that’s delivering results.”

With Republicans holding a razor-thin majority and President Trump’s poll numbers being low, Democrats feel emboldened about pushing accountability going into November.
