President Donald Trump announced that Iran sent the US a gift worth “a tremendous amount of money” during an active war, but he refused to say what it was. This comes amid ongoing concerns about the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the US, which many fear could last for years.
According to Unilad, speaking from the White House, Trump hinted at significant progress with Iran. He told reporters, “They gave us a present, and the present arrived today. It was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money. And I’m not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize.”
Trump added, “It was a very nice thing they did. But what it showed me is that we’re dealing with the right people.” When pressed for more details, he admitted the gift was “oil and gas related” but would not say anything more. He also claimed Iran is looking “to make a deal” and that his team had already held discussions with an Iranian leader.
Iran’s denial and Trump’s trust issues add more confusion to an already complicated situation
Iran directly denied that any negotiations have taken place. Iranian parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf posted on X, stating, “No negotiations have been held with the US.” He also suggested that “fake news is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets,” directly contradicting Trump’s claims. Many military families are still waiting for clarity, and how soon the Iran war might actually end remains an open and troubling question.
Despite the alleged “oil and gas related” gift, domestic energy costs are still expected to remain high for consumers. A major concern for energy infrastructure in the region has been cheap Iranian Shahed drones, which cost only thousands to produce but can cause millions of dollars in damage to critical facilities across Saudi Arabia and Oman.
Two of Saudi Arabia’s largest refineries were struck by Iranian drones and had to close, including the Red Sea port Yanbu’s SAMREF, which was temporarily shut down. One of the world’s largest refineries, Ras Tanura, was also out of commission for several weeks after a similar attack.
When asked if he trusted the Iranians, Trump admitted that he didn’t trust anybody, but quickly returned to the idea of the gift and said the US is “dealing with the right people.” This follows claims made on Monday about “productive conversations” with Iran aimed at a “complete and total resolution of our hostilities.”
