Donald Trump puffs out his chest and says he had a ‘successful’ day as Russia blasts Ukraine border close to allies and scrambles NATO warplanes

The bombing left three children - 5 months, 4 years, and 6 years old - in a family wounded.

Two German warplanes were sent from Romania overnight in response to a large-scale aerial attack by Russia on Ukraine. This attack happened less than a mile from the NATO border. The Romanian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft were deployed to monitor the air situation. These planes are stationed at Romania’s Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base as part of a NATO air policing mission.

The ministry noted that during this event, no Russian aircraft or projectiles crossed the NATO border. This follows a series of incidents in recent weeks where Russian attacks have come very close to, and sometimes crossed, allied borders. These events have raised concerns about the security of the region. Even with ongoing diplomatic discussions, intense military action has continued.

According to The Guardian, the aerial assault targeted oil and port facilities in the Odesa region. These attacks took place on or near the Danube River, which forms the border between Ukraine and Romania, a NATO member nation. Moscow’s continuous aerial bombardment persisted despite recent talks between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that more than sixty drones and ballistic missiles were launched across Ukraine during the night.

Russia won’t stop bombing Ukraine

A separate report from Ukraine’s Air Force later updated this number to ninety-three overnight drone strikes. They stated that sixty-two of the Shahed-style drones and one ballistic missile were intercepted. Beyond the immediate targets, the Russian strikes caused substantial human and infrastructural damage across various parts of Ukraine. In the northeastern Sumy region, a drone strike injured fourteen people. The injured included a family with three young children.

The children, aged five months, four years, and six years, all required medical attention after the attack. In the Donetsk region, a glide bomb damaged five apartment buildings. Rescue efforts were underway to free at least three individuals who were trapped beneath the rubble.

The ongoing attacks drew a strong reaction from Ukrainian leadership. President Zelenskyy remarked that the strikes were a deliberate display of force. He said, “All of these are demonstrative strikes that only confirm the need to put pressure on Moscow, the need to impose new sanctions and tariffs until diplomacy is fully effective. I thank all partners who are helping to stop this Russian war. Together with the United States, Europe, and all those who seek peace.”

The full scope of the damage and the total number of casualties beyond these specific incidents were not confirmed by the Ukrainian leader. Despite this, Trump continues to say things are going well, even saying he had a “very successful day” with the negotiations, per Fox.
