‘Don’t threaten us with a good time’: Mike Johnson warns that the ‘radical left’ might impeach Trump, but nobody thinks that’s bad news

At a Turning Point USA event, Mike Johnson feared the Democrats would impeach Trump again if the Republicans lose the House majority in midterms. But instead of prompting concern, the warning sounded like a dream for most Americans.

At AmericaFest on Dec. 21, House Speaker Mike Johnson took the stage to quote the Bible and praise Donald Trump. You know the drill. Borders are “fixed,” crimes are solved, taxes slashed, spending cut, and America restored. Because in Johnson’s playbook, applause matters more than accuracy. But then he pivoted. After warning that “everything is on the line” in the 2026 midterms, Johnson told the audience his greatest fear:

“Everything that has been said here is on the line in the midterms of 2026. But if we lose the House majority, the radical left, as you’ve already heard, is going to impeach President Trump. They’re going to create absolute chaos. We cannot let that happen.”

To make it clear, Johnson’s fear isn’t losing the ability to govern if they lose the majority. He’s only panicking about Trump facing impeachment. Not because it’s unjust, or unconstitutional, but because it would “create absolute chaos.” On social media, the response was blunt, almost mocking. “Don’t threaten us with a good time,” several users wrote.

According to Johnson’s framing, impeachment isn’t a constitutional process. He instead presented it as a weapon that the other side might finally pick up once Republicans aren’t there to lock it away. And, if Trump is impeached when his party loses the majority, then it’s his power, not innocence, that’s protecting him right now.

And mind you, Johnson didn’t say Democrats would manufacture impeachable offenses. He said they’d impeach Trump, full stop. That’s a clear admission of guilt. So, why wouldn’t Americans want a criminal behind bars? On top of this blunder, Johnson also called the Democrats “radical left Marxists”:

“This is not your father’s Democrat party anymore. And they want to dismantle the very foundations of our republic and everything that we all stand for.”

What Johnson is actually fearful of is oversight, not extremism. He’s having nightmares about hearings, investigations, and votes that don’t automatically die. Because once Republicans lose the majority, Congress can actually do what it is supposed to do. As one user on X puts it, Johnson’s “radical left” cry is simply a “smoke screen.”

Johnson crying “radical left” is just a smokescreen; what he really fears is accountability. Trump’s record is stacked with scandals that make impeachment a constitutional remedy, not a partisan fantasy. Losing the House majority doesn’t unleash radicals; it simply removes the shield that’s been protecting corruption.

One thing that Johnson’s speech made clear is that the GOP’s panic about the midterms is real. They don’t fear that Democrats will impeach Trump because it’s unfair, but because it’s possible. So when Johnson tried to scare the audience with that word, he only sparked anticipation.
