The presidency of Donald Trump really is playing out like some kind of terrible comedy sketch, the only problem is no one’s laughing. The president recently made a fool of himself and his VP by directly contradicting JD Vance’s statement on Iran mere hours after he made it and this comes days after he fell out with his own Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard over Iran.
Trump took to Truth Social and brought up the possibility of a regime change in Iran, actually, his statement pretty much amounted to him giving his support for the idea of a change in the country. The president criticized the “current Iran regime” before ending his post with a call to Make Iran Great Again (MIGA).
“It’s not politically correct to use the term, “Regime Change,” but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!!”
As usual, Trump has given us another unhinged and tone deaf statement as he fails to read the room. But what’s more embarrassing, at least for him, is the fact that many of his closest allies don’t even agree with him.
Trump’s statement sabotages Vance
Of course, in his eagerness to defend the U.S. involvement in Iran Donald Trump has inadvertently made his VP look rather foolish. Speaking to NBC, JD Vance claimed that the U.S. was not seeking to bring in a regime change. He insisted that the U.S. was “not at war with Iran,” but instead was “at war with Iran’s nuclear program.”
His statement sticks to the narrative that the reason for U.S. involvement is purely based around Iran becoming a potential nuclear power. It echoes the sentiment of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth who told reporters at the Pentagon, “This mission was not and has not been about regime change.” Both of these men were undermined by Trump however, prompting people online to compare Donald and his VP to a hit Jim Carrey comedy.
The president is on his own
Last week Trump butted heads with Tulsi Gabbard over U.S. intervention in Iran which led many to speculate that there was infighting going on in the Trump Administration. The falling out between the two has led the president to throw her under the bus so to speak.
It seems there is chaos behind closed doors right now. Donald Trump’s statement contradicting the rest of his party gives us a glimpse of the disorder going on within his party. Nobody in the Republican party knows what to say as Trump is simply too unpredictable.
It’s hard to imagine Vance and Hegseth intentionally disagreeing with the president like Gabbard did. It’s much more likely they didn’t realize he was going to come out and say what he said about the current regime in Iran. But should we expect any less from Trump, a man who is notorious for not thinking before he speaks?
