It looks like ICE may be getting desperate for new recruits as the agency has advertised a $50,000 signing bonus for willing applicants. However, it seems ICE is so despised at present that even that isn’t enough to convince people to join the ranks.
In a now-deleted post shared to X by the official U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement account, a poster featuring an image of Uncle Sam was accompanied by the suggestion: “Join ICE today.” It also advertised the “$50,000 signing bonus” which recruits would apparently get upon signing up. The caption of the post read: “Answer the call to service! Defend your family. Defend your neighbor. Defend the Homeland.”
This is the most propaganda looking piece of propaganda that ever propaganda’d, but despite that it doesn’t seem to have worked on anyone as droves of people on X told ICE where to shove their $50,000.
Nobody wants to join ICE
Despite their best efforts it seems nobody responded to the post, at least in the way they were hoping, (which is probably why it was deleted). Nobody was even tempted by the large cash bonus with people opting to drag the federal agency instead. “Gonna be a nope from me boss.” Wrote one, “ideal candidate- divorced alcoholic with a domestic assault charge on his record, bad credit, and $50K in debt.” joked another
One person questioned how ICE could afford such a steep bonus when the agency is already over budget. This just seems like an all round bad idea. This administration is already wasting so much money ICE and for what? It seems the more time passes, the more people turn against them. So can they really afford to pay out $50,000 per new recruit?
There are other concerns with the scheme such as the offer attracting unqualified recruits, some allegedly couldn’t even read or write while others had pending criminal charges.
They can’t afford it
On the off chance anyone reading this is tempted by the $50k, know this, there’s some fine print that isn’t included in the post shared to X. You see, the reward for signing up has been a thing for a while but it seems people rarely get paid.
In a post shared on Reddit last year, one individual questioned whether the $50k bonus was legitimate. A few helpful Redditors who admitted they had no personal experience working for ICE claimed that the money was given over the course of four years. Another chimed in, adding you get paid only if you’re in good standing after your four years are up. Although they suspected managers might game the system “by writing people up for some minor infraction that put them in “bad standing” status and therefore ineligible for the $50k.”
Not that any of that matters. ICE reputation is perhaps the lowest it’s ever been and the people have made their opinions on the agency quite clear.
