Fox News forced into humiliating apology after concealing Trump insult to dead troops

They claim they "inadvertently" aired old footage to hide Trump's baseball cap.

We probably don’t need to underline how little Donald Trump thinks of American troops who give their lives for their country. He was quite clear that he thinks they’re “suckers” and “losers”, apparently believing that anyone who dies in war was probably too dumb and helpless to survive.

After all, if they were smart and rich like him, they’d get their daddy to cook up some ridiculous story about bone spurs to get out of serving.

So, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that Trump attended the dignified transfer of dead soldiers’ coffinsat Dover Air Force Base in Delaware while wearing a gaudy white and gold “USA” baseball cap. I guess we should just be impressed he made time to attend at all between rounds of golf.

But what really takes the biscuit is Fox News realizing this makes Trump look awful and playing footage from a previous dignified transfer in which he was dressed appropriately:

This little bit of editing slipped by mostly unnoticed at the time, but as controversy grew over Trump’s insultingly casual outfit, questions began to be asked about Fox News’ report. Now they’ve been forced into a groveling half-apology, in which they claim old footage was played “inadvertently” and “in error”.

“We want to acknowledge a mistake made earlier on our program. During our coverage of yesterday’s dignified transfer, we inadvertently aired video from an older dignified transfer instead of the ceremony that took place yesterday. We deeply regret the error.”

Uh-huh. And I’m sure a kid with his hand caught in the cookie jar “deeply regrets” it too.

If they don’t care, just stop pretending!

Once again, this whole situation is another example of the crazy double-standards of conservative media. Can you imagine the conniptions and purse-clutching that would take place if Obama had worn a baseball cap to a dignified transfer?

We’d never hear the end of it, and you can guarantee that every single conservative caricature of Obama from that point on would be wearing a baseball cap.

But Trump gets to skate on by and get away with disrespecting the memory of fallen troops. The reality must be that conservatives secretly agree with Trump that dead troops are losers and suckers. After all, if they actually cared, they’d be mad. They’re clearly not mad, so… they don’t care.
