‘Graphic image’: Donald Trump tried covering his bruised hand with makeup. Then a White House event exposed what he was hiding

The unlikely show-stealer!

A new image of U.S. President Donald Trump‘s bruised hand started spreading on social media, after it was captured during a health care affordability event at the White House. The event featured Trump alongside Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Mehmet Oz, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., billionaire Mark Cuban, and Heidi Overton.

According to Raw Story, many observers focused on the visible bruising on Trump’s hand rather than the event itself. This is not the first time Trump has been seen with bruised hands. He has often been spotted covering the bruising with thick layers of makeup, and the White House has previously said the bruising is caused by his higher-than-normal aspirin dosage and frequent handshaking with supporters and dignitaries.

However, many health experts and observers have questioned whether handshaking alone can explain the kind of bruising seen on his hands. Trump himself has downplayed the issue, pointing to his frequent handshakes as the cause. But experts say that is not a convincing explanation. The repeated use of makeup to hide the bruising has only added to the speculation around his health.

Social media reactions and late-night jokes show how much Trump’s health concerns have grown

Social media quickly filled with reactions once the image began circulating. “Graphic image,” journalist Gavin Aronsen posted on X. Political analyst Nicole Sandler, host of The Nicole Sandler Show, posted on Bluesky: “Okay, this is downright nauseating.”

Humorist Mark Aldrich also wrote: “These are strongly handed hands. The handliest hands that ever hands hands. Thank you for your attention to this matter.” Writer Gregory Norminton added: “Trump flaunting a different sort of corruption this afternoon.”

According to The Daily Beast, the bruising on Trump’s hands also caught the attention of Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show, after Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping shared a long handshake ahead of bilateral talks in Beijing.

Colbert joked that the handshake was “an inspiring display of hyper-masculine hand dominance,” and also referenced the bruising on Trump’s hands that has frequently been hidden under makeup. Trump’s Beijing visit came with its own share of awkward moments, including an incident where Trump was caught looking into Xi Jinping’s private notebook, which drew widespread attention. The trip marked Trump’s first state visit to China since 2017.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded to Colbert’s remarks in a statement to the Daily Beast, calling him “a pathetic trainwreck with no talent and terrible ratings.” The statement drew its own wave of reactions on social media, with many defending Colbert’s right to comment on the president’s public appearances and health.

The repeated pattern of visible bruising, followed by makeup coverage, followed by public exposure has become a recurring story around Trump’s health. The White House has stuck to its explanation of aspirin use and handshaking, but critics say that answer does not fully address the extent and frequency of the bruising that has been seen on multiple occasions.

Questions about Trump’s overall health are not new. He has had a long-documented history of health concerns, including high cholesterol and an inconsistent approach to exercise. The latest image of his bruised hand has brought those concerns back into public conversation.

Many have been calling for more transparency from the White House about the president’s physical condition. Trump has also faced scrutiny on other fronts, with critics raising concerns over his approach to declaring war without Congress, adding to the broader debate about his conduct in office.
