Greenland tells Trump ‘we’re not for sale’ but the country has a counter offer he should seriously consider

Here's how Donald Trump could strike a deal with Greenland that makes everyone happy.

Once again, the people of Greenland have reiterated that their country is not for sale, not that we can expect Donald Trump to respect their wishes. However, they have an interesting counter offer which could make everyone a winner if the U.S. president were to take them up on it.

For weeks now Trump has been obsessively talking about taking control of Greenland for “national security” reasons. Many believe that’s a bogus excuse just to get at the resources in the country but it doesn’t change the fact that Trump is dead serious about his plan to make the country a part of America. He’s even threatened to take it by force on several occasions.

Neither of those options are really sounding all too appealing to the population of Greenland, but they have come up with a counter offer: for Greenland to be independent. While on the surface that sounds like the exact opposite of what Donald Trump would want, when you really think about it, it makes sense and could be a compromise that works out for everyone.

Donald Trump should seriously consider Greenland’s offer

Speaking to the NY Post, Greenland resident Larserak Matthiessen claimed “we’re not for sale,” but went on to say, “I want Greenland to be independent, but we’re not ready yet. But I hope it happens before I die.” Matthiessen isn’t alone in his desire for independence from Denmark, many residents also told the Post the same thing but they most certainly don’t want another occupation from another country.

While there is no clear plan on how to make the dream of independence come true, Greenlandic parliamentary members have urged Donald Trump to consider buying the country’s freedom. This could benefit Trump as one member of parliament, Kuno Fencker, explained it’s all about framing.

“The wrong framing is that we can purchase a country or purchase a people,” instead, if the U.S. government helped the country in its quest it could open up the door for future deals and a strong relation between the two countries. Essentially Greenland is telling the U.S., “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.”

Trump may not get everything he wants, but it’s a far sight better than buying an entire country without the people’s consent or annexing it through use of military force.

Of course, not everyone in Greenland is on board with this idea, one resident by the name of Emma Holm told the Post that she enjoys the social securities that Denmark provides and wouldn’t want to see that taken away.
