‘He is resigning’: Stephen King drops the ultimate April Fool’s joke, and we’re mad it’s not real

Stephen King writes something fictitious which isn't horror for once.

Stephen King has made his thoughts on Donald Trump crystal clear over the years. His posts to social media filled with biting criticisms of the president are so regular you’d almost think it was King’s job to mock Trump and the horror author wasn’t going to take the day off for April Fools Day either.

The 78-year-old author from Maine took to X to inform his followers that Donald Trump would be speaking to the nation to announce his resignation in the evening. For those who may not have been aware of the date he included (April fool) underneath. Dang it Stephen, you got our hopes up!

Unfortunately we all know that Trump would never willingly give up his position even if the entire country or even the entire world were calling for it. He’s too much of a narcissist, and far too delusional to ever acknowledge the fact that he’s doing a terrible job in leading the country. On top of that he’s making a huge profit from his presidency so, purely for selfish reasons, it’s hard to imagine him ever giving up the role.

If only King’s post was real

Still, none of that makes it any less of a bitter pill to swallow. Many would love to see Trump resign before he plunges the country deeper into the chaos he’s already created in the first year of his second term. Maybe, if he resigned now, there would be hope that we could still course correct or at least make a start at tidying up the mess he’s made.

Plenty of people want to see King’s post become a reality, “You had us all cheering for a moment there, Stephen,” one response reads. “That would have been epic. Finely no clown in the office.” added another. Others wrote that they’d like to see younger candidates take Trump’s place. Let’s face it, the current president is old and if he makes it to the end of his second term he will be the oldest person to have been in office.

Of course, if Trump were to resign we’d have to deal with the fact that his likely replacement would be the Vice President JD Vance. That option sounds almost as bad as the one we’ve got now, he’s easily just as bigoted and hateful as Trump and arguably he’s even more delusional, sharing all sorts of insane conspiracy theories.

Regardless, the post from Stephen King clearly struck a chord with people. It shows just how far public opinion of the current president has fallen. A little over a year ago the responses to King’s post would have been filled with MAGA telling the author to shut up, now everyone’s genuinely imagining what a nice place the world would be if Trump stepped down.
