‘I am sick about Woody’: Newly released Epstein files reveal surprising truth about Timothée Chalamet’s charity donation

He wasn’t feeling generous.

Newly released documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein contain a claim about actor Timothée Chalamet. The files suggest he was “made to give away his money” from a controversial film role. This detail comes from an email exchange between the disgraced financier and publicist Peggy Siegel, showing a different story than what the actor said publicly.

Siegel wrote the email to Epstein around January 2018, “I am sick about Woody. This ‘#Me Too’ witch hunt is out to destroy an 80 year old global cinematic treasure and it makes me so sad.” This was shortly after the actor announced he was donating his entire salary from the film A Rainy Day In New York. The publicist claimed Chalamet was “sick about being forced into any action by the press,” and that his decision to donate was not fully voluntary.

According to Unilad, Siegel said that Chalamet’s agents were the ones who forced the donation. She wrote that they “made him give his money away, supposedly not as a sign of Woody’s guilt, but support of hysterical woman and media.” She also expressed frustration about the controversy surrounding the film’s director, Woody Allen, who has long faced allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies.

The public pressure campaign behind the donation reveals Hollywood’s power dynamics

The controversy came from Chalamet’s role in the romantic comedy, A Rainy Day In New York. The movie faced a two-year delay in its US release because several people connected to the film publicly distanced themselves from Allen. This happened due to allegations made by his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow.

In January 2018, Chalamet made a public statement announcing his donation. He said he was learning that accepting a job required more criteria than just having a good role. He explained that he couldn’t directly answer questions about working with Allen due to contractual obligations.

However, he made his intentions clear, stating he didn’t want to profit from his work on the film. He pledged his entire salary to three charities: Time’s Up, the LGBT Centre in New York, and Rainn, which is the Rape, Abuse & Incist National Network. The same document release also revealed Elon Musk’s controversial party requests tied to Epstein.

Chalamet concluded his announcement by saying he wanted to “be worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave artists who are fighting for all the people to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve.” Reading that statement now, with the claim that his agents made him give the money away, changes how this moment looks.

The email about Chalamet is just one small piece of the massive release of information. The US Justice Department released three million documents, including emails and photos, as part of the new batch of files related to the disgraced financier.

Many high-profile names were mentioned across the documents, including President Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates. Previous revelations showed Trump’s ex-wife’s warnings about Epstein that went unheeded for years.
