‘I don’t think he’s bluffing’: Elon Musk fires opening salvo in 2026 midterm elections with big post-breakup energy

Told ya so, Elon.

On June 3, 2025, Elon Musk seemed to rip into the GOP for allegedly splurging on luxury hotels in Ukraine. His caption? A dramatic, populist mic drop, seeming to reference the 2026 midterm elections: “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”

With nearly 30 million views and counting, this wasn’t your average keyboard tantrum. As one comment said, “I don’t think he’s bluffing.” Was this the world’s richest man and self-appointed referee of the culture wars, telling the MAGA GOP: I’m not mad—I’m just done? Musk’s apparent about-face could come too late, because as he seems to realize, the damage is already done.

From tech bro to Trump bro to… whatever this is

For those keeping, Musk’s political journey has been nothing short of whiplash-inducing. He went from progressive-adjacent innovator to free-speech absolutist, to MAGA-sympathetic billionaire—all in under five years.

In 2022, he famously unbanned Donald Trump from X, expressed support for Republican candidates, and made “woke mind virus” a household phrase among his fanbase. But recently? The bromance with Trump has imploded harder than a poorly manufactured Cybertruck.

Appointed in January 2025 by Trump, Musk led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with the mission to reduce government waste. During his tenure, he claimed to have saved $175 billion in taxpayer money through aggressive cost-cutting measures, including federal layoffs and contract cancellations. However, his methods drew criticism and skepticism from various quarters.

Musk resigned from DOGE shortly before he publicly criticized the GOP’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” labeling it a “disgusting abomination” due to its excessive spending. In another X post, he warned that the bill would escalate the federal deficit to $2.5 trillion, burdening Americans with unsustainable debt.

That break-up post practically screamed, “It’s not me, it’s you. Also, you’re gross.” Now, Musk’s new message is clear: nobody’s safe in 2026.

The fire-all politicians tour begins

Now, instead of defending his former political flame, Musk hit retweet and launched what sounds like a one-man political purge. The line “we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people” is dripping with MAGA-like fury, but oddly, it’s now seemingly against MAGA politicians.

Musk’s recent actions and statements reflect a significant shift in his political stance, moving away from previous support for the GOP. As the 2026 midterm elections approach, his influence and potential endorsements could play a pivotal role in shaping the political landscape.

Musk’s recent X post is vague enough to keep everyone guessing: Is Musk launching a new political party? Will he bankroll outsider candidates? Or is this just another billionaire keyboard crusade destined to fizzle out? One thing’s for sure: he’s mad, he’s rich, and he has Wi-Fi. But after Musk supported Trump in 2024, maybe we should stop listening?
