The MAGA meltdown over the Epstein files and the Department of Justice (DOJ) memo stating they did not exist reached a new pitch as President Trump shared a lengthy Truth Social post calling any supporters upset about the move “weaklings,” stating, “I don’t want their support anymore!”
Trump: Jeffrey Epstein is a “hoax”
In his July 16 Truth Social post, Trump claimed that “Radical Left Democrats” have launched another baseless attack, likening it to past controversies he calls “Scams and Hoaxes,” including, among other examples, the Steele Dossier, the Russia investigation, and the “Laptop from Hell,” referring to the Hunter Biden laptop controversy.
In the post, Trump accused Democrats of being skilled only at deception, not at governance, policy, or running strong candidates, and said they remain united, unlike Republicans. Trump also claimed what he called the “Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” was the latest smear against him, expressing frustration that some of his past supporters believe it.
He criticizes them for being easily manipulated by the “Lunatic Left” and media before adding that he would proceed without “PAST supporters.”
Marjorie Taylor Greene’s possible response
Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, typically an ardent Trump supporter, has been among those speaking out against the DOJ’s claim that the Epstein files don’t exist, that there was no conspiracy, and that Epstein died by suicide.
While Trump’s Truth Social post didn’t name names, Greene shared an X post of her own the same day, which seemed to refer to what Trump said.
“I want to be clear to everyone,” Greene’s post read. “To my family, my district, my staff, everyone. My blind loyalty and faith is ONLY in God and Jesus Christ my savior. That is what will guide my decisions, actions, and votes. It doesn’t make me perfect, but I will do my absolute best to be faithful, obedient, and follow God. In all matters.”
The DOJ memo
In early July 2025, the DOJ and FBI released a two-page memo detailing the results of an exhaustive review of over 300 gigabytes of Epstein-related records—including digital files, videos, surveillance footage, and physical evidence—conducted across agency databases and secure storage to effectively declare the Epstein case closed.
The DOJ memo directly contradicts several claims made by Trump and his allies in recent years. Trump has repeatedly suggested that Epstein may have been murdered and hinted at the existence of a hidden “client list” implicating powerful figures.
Trump officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel and others in MAGA circles, have echoed similar theories, alleging deep-state cover-ups and unproven ties between Epstein and political elites. The DOJ’s findings undercut these conspiracy theories, intensifying the backlash from Trump’s base and contributing to visible rifts within his coalition.
High-profile GOP figures—including Greene, Sen. John Kennedy, Tucker Carlson, Laura Loomer, Dan Bongino, and Kash Patel—expressed anger and disappointment, accusing the DOJ of a cover-up and labeling Attorney General Pam Bondi’s staff as insufficiently transparent. Analysts caution that this infighting may erode MAGA unity and impact Republican cohesion ahead of upcoming elections.
