‘I think he may’: Donald Trump’s son believes his dad will simply abandon Ukraine to Russian conquest

Trump is just giving up.

Donald Trump Jr. confirmed a major fear about the future of US foreign policy this week, suggesting that President Trump “may” walk away from American involvement in Ukraine. When asked directly if the president could step back from supporting Ukraine, the younger Trump gave a straightforward answer: “I think he may”.

He argues that his dad’s refusal to be pinned down forces other nations to engage honestly with the US. “What’s good about my father, and what’s unique about my father, is you don’t know what he’s going to do,” he explained. He believes this element of surprise “forces everyone to actually deal in an intellectually honest capacity.”

This stance comes amidst President Trump’s consistent push for Russia and Ukraine to agree to a peace deal. The administration wants peace and wants to see the conflict end immediately. “We want peace. We want to stop the death,” Trump Jr. affirmed, according to Politico.

Trump sees no peace prize, so he’d rather just give up

This desire for an exit is tied up in President Trump’s difficult relationship with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, often contrasting with the president’s displayed sympathy toward Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Trump Jr. even critiqued the public image of Zelenskyy, suggesting the conflict turned him into a near-mythological figure, especially among political opponents in the US.

He argued that Zelenskyy’s savvy marketing skills elevated him to an untouchable status. “Because of the war, and because he’s one of the great marketers of all times, Zelenskyy became a borderline deity, especially to the left, where he could do no wrong, he was beyond reproach,” Trump Jr. stated. It’s worth noting that Zelenskyy himself has not been accused of corruption, but the point Trump Jr. was making focused entirely on how the public views him.

The administration’s primary focus, according to Trump Jr., isn’t overseas but right here at home. He made it clear that he views the fight against drug cartels as a much more urgent problem than the conflict in Eastern Europe. He strongly defended the president’s military campaign targeting cartels, including the use of airstrikes against boats in the Caribbean believed to be carrying drugs.

He stressed that the deaths caused by drug cartels in America are a clear danger that must be addressed immediately. In fact, he claimed that the cartel issue is the single greatest threat the US currently faces. “That’s a far greater clear and present danger to the United States than anything going on in Ukraine and Russia,” he confirmed. If you’re looking for where the administration’s resources will be allocated next, this is a huge clue.

Trump Jr. made these comments while appearing onstage in Doha with his business partner Omeed Malik, who works with the growth equity investment firm 1789 Capital. Finally, he addressed the constitutional impossibility of his father running for a third term, which is a question that frequently pops up.

He laughed it off, suggesting that the president’s refusal to shut down the rumor entirely is just a bit of political “trolling.” Honestly, it’s a brilliant way to keep the media guessing and the political opposition agitated. “It is funny to watch the leftist heads explode every time he brings it up,” he joked, adding, “We’ll see what happens.”
