ICE turn on cops, Chicago police officer arrested, department furious

Everyone should have seen this coming. ICE has a daily arrest target of 3,000 people per day, as set by Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem. That means individual agents are under pressure to snatch as many people as they can for the flimsiest of reasons.

With those high detainment targets, it was obvious ICE would soon run out of its usual prey and would need to look elsewhere for targets. But we suspect most assumed it’d be at least a few more months before they started attacking cops.

Well, think again. CNN reports that on Thursday morning, ICE snatched Officer Radule Bojovic from the Hanover Park suburb, saying he’s an unlawful immigrant from Montenegro (it’s across the sea to the east of Italy).

The Department of Homeland Security claims he overstayed a 2015 tourist visa, with DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin saying:

“Radule Bojovic violated our nation’s laws and was living ILLEGALLY in the United States for 10 years—what kind of police department gives criminal illegal aliens badges and guns? It’s a felony for aliens to even possess a firearm. A law enforcement officer who is actively breaking the law.”

Mayor of Hanover Park, Rodney Craig, said this is all utter nonsense, that they want him released and returned to full duty as soon as possible:

“I encourage all our residents to gather all the available facts before forming their own opinion as to whether hiring the officer was appropriate. I can tell you with the utmost confidence it was appropriate.

First and foremost, the village and the police department conducted its own thorough due diligence as part of this hiring process. As is the case with the hiring of all police officers. … Background checks performed by the FBI and Illinois State Police revealed no criminal history. If Officer Bojovic did not hold federal work authorization, he would not have been hired.”

ICE: making the streets more dangerous

As many quickly pointed out, even if this guy is in the country illegally (and that’s a very big “if”), what good is it to anyone to deport this guy?

And they literally called him a “criminal illegal alien”

All of which should underline to you that anyone is now a potential victim of ICE, whether you’re a legal citizen or not. They have quotas to fill and don’t care who you are or what your legal status is. Here’s hoping this unfortunate case is resolved soon and Officer Bojovic is back where he belongs, protecting people from criminals.
