‘I’m confused’: Even Piers Morgan is baffled as Donald Trump’s war narrative collapses under the weight of its own nonsense

Even Piers Morgan is calling out Trump's obvious lies.

Donald Trump addressed the nation last night to assure every American that his war with Iran is not an embarrassing disaster that’s going to make your life miserable. It’s a bold play, especially as a glance at the news indicates that things are… not going to plan.

In fact, you might even say the situation is worsening by the day as the U.S. and Israel fail to achieve their objectives, the very much still-in-power Iranian government openly mocks Trump’s insistence they’re negotiating for peace and, despite Trump’s various deadlines, the Strait of Hormuz remains firmly closed.

For many, it’s time to finally admit that the emperor has no clothes. Piers Morgan, once a good friend of Trump, watched this speech and came away scratching his head. One of Trump’s key arguments was that he’d successfully prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

Simultaneously, Trump also admits Iran is still in possession of 440.9 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 per cent purity, very close to the weapons-grade 90 per cent purity. How can both be true? Morgan, like the rest of us, is “confused”:

I’m confused. President Trump says the war is 2/3 weeks from being over and the main goal of preventing Iran from developing a nuke has been achieved. Yet they still have all their enriched uranium?

Trump was actually quizzed about this uranium stockpile two days ago, telling CBS News, “I don’t care about that.” He went on to admit it’s “so deeply buried it’s going to be very hard for anybody” to reach. If that’s true, then it sounds a lot like Iran is still close to developing nukes.

Like a broken record…

It’s worth pointing out that this isn’t the first time Trump has insisted he’s prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Back in June 2025, he launched a bombing campaign against Iran, going on to insist that “Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated”. To underline the point, a few days later, he claimed: “It was my great honor to Destroy All Nuclear facilities & capability.”

And, of course, all this is predicated on the notion that Iran is actually developing nukes. In March, the US intelligence community assessed that Iran was “not building a nuclear weapon” – indeed, Iran actually has a religious fatwa against their development, with Ayatollah Khamenei saying in 2015:

“We do not need a nuclear weapon either in the present time or in the future. A nuclear weapon is a source of trouble for a country like ours.”

Whether you believe him or not is up to you. The awkward truth is that the United States and Israel have just made the case to Iran (and many other countries) that they should absolutely seek nuclear weapons as quickly as possible, or face being attacked by the United States. After all, North Korea has nukes, and you don’t see anyone trying to push them around!

The takeaway here is a familiar one. Trump is a liar who doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s really as simple as that.
