‘Incompetence’: Trump officials retract statements, cops baffled, Charlie Kirk killer slips away

Kirk's assassin may never be found.

Charlie Kirk was executed in front of 3,000 witnesses, with the fatal shot caught on high-definition video from multiple angles. Turmoil erupted, but almost immediately, a video appeared on social media of the cops restraining an angry man who appeared to be yelling, “shoot me!”.

Case closed? FBI director Kash Patel certainly thought so. Soon after the killing, Patel took to social media to inform us all that “The subject for the horrific shooting today that took the life of Charlie Kirk is now in custody”.

Well, that’s a relief! And you just know that the FBI director wouldn’t just jump to conclusions on faulty evid… oh wait, he did. A red-faced Patel soon posted a clarification that, in fact, they have no idea who the killer is:

Is it already too late?

The lack of an arrest or any announcements of leads or evidence indicates that the unknown shooter successfully escaped the scene. There have been no reports of a weapon being recovered or even a shell casing found. They do, of course, have one piece of hard evidence: the bullet that killed Kirk.

A single fatal shot to the neck fired from approximately 200 ft away implies the use of a scoped rifle, which itself indicates a degree of firearms competency. Hitting Kirk in the neck from this distance with a single shot also points toward the shooter being skilled at a marksman or sniper level. Or, of course, they could just be an amateur who simply got “lucky”.

That this took place on a college campus means there’s likely security camera footage of the area, with those tapes almost certainly now being pored over by law enforcement. But, with each hour that passes, the assassin may be getting further and further away from the scene of the crime, potentially even leaving the country altogether.

In addition, the bumbling Patel falsely announcing the FBI had arrested the killer may have bought the actual shooter precious time to escape. After all, in the 90 minutes between Patel’s two X posts, you can cover a lot of ground in a vehicle.

The most dangerous moment for the killer was the immediate aftermath of the shooting, so cops must now rely on good old-fashioned detective work. Given the high-profile nature of the crime and the massive manhunt, it’s still likely we’ll have a suspect soon, but it’s also possible this killer may slip away into anonymity and never be found.
