‘Is the wrong answer to flush?’: Woman has to get rabies shot after finding a bat in her toilet

Dracula needed to use the toilet.

It’s always a wise decision to check what is in the toilet bowl before sitting down to do your business, all kinds of nasty surprises can be waiting in there although you probably would never expect to find a baby bat floating in the water.

One woman on TikTok was horrified to discover that unfortunately, a winged creature of the night had not only found its way into her house, but that it had also gone for a swim in her toilet and sadly not been able to find its way out. Alison, who goes by the moniker “tismpump” on TikTok, shared her grim discovery to millions of viewers.

In her video she jokes, “I thought I took a s—,” and presumably forgot to flush. She then turns the camera around to show something dark floating in the water of her toilet bowl. “It’s a baby bat,” she screams, although it looks as if the poor little critter has been dead for quite a while.

So what would you do if there was a dead bat in your toilet?

Viewers on TikTok offered their two cents on what Alyson should do. One asked, “Is the wrong answer to flush?” Others advised that Alyson get a rabies shot immediately which might have been a smart call as according to the CDC official website, “bats are the most reported animals with rabies.”

Signs that a bat may have rabies include being active during the day, being found in unusual places such as homes, being unable to fly, or even coming into contact with humans (which they usually avoid). As the bat is dead Alyson would have no way of being able to look for the signs, but it being found in her toilet is certainly unusual.

Deciding it’s better to be safe than sorry Alyson took a trip to the hospital to get a rabies shot as per viewer recommendation. While she likely wouldn’t have needed it, it’s probably advisable to play it safe when it comes to bats, rabies is a very rough disease with no symptoms until it’s already too late.

Alyson even recorded herself going to get her shot which ended up going viral and receiving over 42 million views. Most people actually saw the hospital visit first and then went back to find the original discovery of the bat.

As for the bat, Alyson did the only thing she could do: she flushed it down the toilet while screaming the whole time. Turns out the right answer was to flush. Perhaps a burial at sea was the way this little bat wanted to go, either way it seemed to go down the drain without a problem.
