Israel bombs girls elementary school in Iran, 51 little girls added to growing kill count

The human cost of this war of aggression.

The Middle East is in flames. Israel and the United States are bombarding Iran, with Trump telling the Iranian people that “bombs will be dropping everywhere”. These unprovoked attacks have resulted in Iran striking back, first against Israel, but also apparently hitting US military targets in Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE, and Qatar.

Trump and Netanyahu’s goal is to unseat the already unstable Iranian government, killing its leaders and urging them to take over the government. Unfortunately for Iranians, it seems the price of a new government will be widespread and indiscriminate slaughter via high explosives.

It’s easy to focus on the geopolitical bigger picture at times like these and shrug at the inevitable civilian deaths. After all, you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs, right?

Well, those eggs are countless dead little girls lying in the ruins of their elementary school. Al-Jazeera is reporting (via Iran’s IRNA news agency) that an Israeli strike hit an elementary school in the city of Minab in Southern Iran. 51 are confirmed dead, with 60 others injured.

City official Mohammad Radmehr said he believed Israel “directly attacked” the school this morning and that 170 students were in the facility when the strike happened, meaning the death toll is almost certainly set to rise.

Collateral damage

Trump and Netanyahu like to talk a big game about how precise their bombs are and that they merely want to take out senior officials and key military targets in Iran. If this is the case, why bomb a school? Perhaps one of the Israeli bombs had been repurposed from Gaza and had been left set to school-obliteration mode?

It’s also worth underlining that Trump and Netanyahu’s attacks weren’t a response to anything Iran had done, but an act of aggression that came out of the blue. That doesn’t make a huge amount of difference when it comes to the ethics of bombing an elementary school, but America and Israel chose to start this war rather than being somehow forced to respond defensively.

In the coming days, countless Iranian men, women, and children will meet the same fate as these little girls, their bodies suddenly incinerated and blown apart by death from the sky. Maybe some of them will be “legitimate targets”, but we suspect Trump and Netanyahu don’t care one way or the other.

A new world must be built, profits must be made, and the foundations will be the tangled corpses of innocent civilians.
