‘It’s finally happening’: Tension as ‘The President’ to address the nation at 2pm today, is Vance stepping up?

Donald Trump hasn’t spoken on camera for a week. This is, to put it mildly, unusual. Also strange is that though he has been seen in public, photographers have been kept far away, and the distant photos we do have show him looking rather unwell.

Then there’s the background hum of old photos of Trump being posted as if they were from the last few days, JD Vance openly confirming he’s ready to assume the presidency, images of Trump’s apparently infected hand, and unexplained closed roads around Walter Reed hospital.

But all speculation is now to come to an end, as the White House has announced that “The President” will make an announcement to the nation at 2:00 pm ET. The content is unknown, but the White House press pool is expected to gather in the Oval Office to hear it.

This is so vague that it could be about anything, but even Trump appearing on camera looking healthy and lucid would squash the many rumors flying around that he’s not long for this world.

But, predictably, social media is convinced that something extremely dramatic is about to happen. Wild speculation about Trump’s health – amusingly dubbed “BlueAnon” – has been exploding over the last few days, peaking on Saturday when vast swathes of the internet concluded that he was already dead.

As such, new crazy theories are flying around. The most prominent is that the schedule says “The President” is making an announcement without specifying which President. Maybe, in a truly pro-wrestling drama twist, there’ll be gasps as JD Vance strides into the Oval Office and sits at the Resolute Desk, thus silently confirming that he’s assumed power.

While this would be an excellent season finale twist, it’s unlikely to actually happen. Official White House schedules generally say “The President” rather than “President Donald J. Trump”, so we shouldn’t read too much into that.

All this said, everyone is curious what’s going to be announced today. Maybe an ill-looking Trump will confirm he’s stepping down as president for medical reasons, likely tossing a barb at Joe Biden for not doing the same when he was president.

Plus, that ol’ reliable indicator of Washington drama, the Pentagon Pizza Order indicator is currently spiking. It sure seems like a lot of people in the Pentagon were working late last night!

This could be just another nothingburger, or Sept 2nd 2025 could become one of the biggest news days of the year. All we can do right now is wait.
