‘It’s the only thing that can stop me’: Trump just revealed what he believes is the sole limit to his presidential power

Peak supervillain energy.

Donald Trump recently told the New York Times that the only thing limiting his power as president is “my own morality, my own mind.” He claimed that nothing else can stop him from doing what he wants. Trump added that he is not trying to hurt people, but his comments have raised concerns about how he views presidential authority.

When asked if his administration needs to follow international law, Trump first said “I don’t need international law.” However, he later said “I do” but added that it depends on how you define international law. These statements came as his team explores different ways to take control of Greenland.

Trump stressed that ownership matters a lot to him. “Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success. I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can’t do with, you’re talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can’t get from just signing a document,” he explained.

Trump defended his actions against Venezuela and dismissed global concerns

The president removed Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela’s leader, but he does not think this will encourage China to take Taiwan or Russia to control Ukraine. Trump defended attacking Venezuela by claiming that Maduro sent gang members to the United States. He said this was a real threat to America.

Trump argued that China and Russia do not face the same problems as the US. He claimed that criminals, drugs, and people from jails are not pouring into China or Russia the way they have been entering America. However, these claims have not been proven. Trump’s approach to international rules has been consistent, as he recently withdrew from multiple U.N. agencies that he considers unnecessary.

When asked about Taiwan, Trump said he told Chinese President Xi Jinping that he would be very unhappy if China tried to take control of the island. Trump believes Xi will not make that move while he is president, though he thinks it might happen under a future leader.

Trump also showed little concern about an important arms control treaty between the US and Russia that ends next month. He said if it expires, they will just make a better deal. He suggested that China and other countries should be part of future agreements.

These comments come at a difficult time for Trump. There are protests across the country after ICE shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday. At the same time, US relations with European allies are getting worse because of Trump’s talk about taking over Greenland. His recent statements about power limits echo his previous hints about pushing for a third presidential term despite constitutional restrictions.
