JD Vance sets a dangerous precedent as he argues ICE shooter, Jonathon Ross, has ‘absolute immunity’ from consequences

JD Vance argues ICE agents should be above the law which is the worst idea we've heard in a while.

Unsurprisingly, the Trump administration has leaped to the defense of suspected ICE shooter, Jonathan Ross while engaging in a smear campaign against Renee Good. In one of the wilder developments Vice President JD Vance claimed that Ross and all other ICE have “absolute immunity” for their actions, something which could set a dangerous precedent.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Vance accused Good of using her vehicle to interfere with a “federal issue.” He argued that Ross was simply doing his job and that he and other ICE agents have immunity which many have taken to mean he thinks ICE should not be able to be prosecuted for their actions.

This is obviously a preposterous and frankly quite frightening statement. Nobody is above the law and even those who enforce it need to be held accountable for crimes or else they’ll continue to abuse the very laws they swear they’re protecting. According to an article from the BBC, the actions of ICE are governed by “a combination of the US Constitution, US law and the Department of Homeland Security’s own policy guidelines.”

Much like other law enforcers, they are bound by U.S. laws that prevent them from using deadly force if there is no threat to life. So no, despite what Vance claims, they are not immune.

JD Vance wants to remove accountability for ICE

While ICE agents may not currently be immune on paper, we have yet to see any of these people face actual consequences. We’ve already seen ICE agents telling terrified citizens that they don’t need warrants to enter premises (a lie) and we’ve seen them dragging innocent people off of the street. They are not following the law but the government seems to be allowing it, who is watching these watchmen?

Despite the smear campaign employed against Nicole Good, many agree that Jonathan Ross’ use of deadly force was unnecessary. He should face justice for his actions and yet the Trump administration continues to protect him and point the finger at the “radical leftists.” The cynical part of me suspects this will only embolden others to commit even more atrocious actions under the guise of serving the law.

This idea of absolute immunity is ridiculous, where would Vance draw the line? If an ICE agent kills a child next would he defend that too? One person on X asked if, “they could turn on Vance and not be prosecuted?” Of course, we already know the answer to that. MAGA will only ever defend the people working for them with this “absolute immunity” argument. If the roles were somehow reversed you know they would probably be seeking the death penalty for the shooter.
