Kristi Noem confronted over alleged lover blankie incident — ‘bag with embarrassing contents’ not mentioned

None, perhaps, was more heated than Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin, who challenged Noem on several points, including an incident when Noem’s alleged lover, Corey Lewandowski, fired a pilot mid-flight on a luxury jet Raskin said Noem leases on the public’s dime.

Raskin said,

Apparently, when your special blanket, your blankie, was left on one of the government jets and not transported over to the new one, your special government employee, Corey Lewandowski, chivalrously stepped forward to fire the pilot mid-air!”

Raskin went on to say that the pilot was re-hired immediately because there was no one else to fly Noem and Lewandowski “on the rest of the journey back home.” In the hearing, Noem did not respond to Raskin’s accusations.

Meanwhile, Raskin calling Lewandowski Noem’s “special government employee” was especially pointed as Noem and Lewandowski — a longtime Donald Trump adviser — have been rumored to be having an affair.

Lewandowski currently serves as a senior adviser at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security under Noem. Both Noem and Lewandowski are married to other people, and have denied they are romantically involved.

Not a blankie, but a bag

What Raskin failed to mention in the hearing, though, is that the alleged blanket incident is even stranger than it sounds. After the news broke over the pilot’s firing and swift rehiring, DHS sources told the Daily Mail,

This was never about a blanket. The blanket was a cover story for what really happened. The whole thing was really about the bag that was left.”

According to the Daily Mail, the bag in question was filled with “embarrassing contents.” What that has not been disclosed.

Regardless of what was inside it, Noem was perhaps particularly sensitive about a misplaced bag because it would be the second time she lost something similar.

Before the pilot-firing incident, someone stole Noem’s purse while she was dining at a restaurant in Washington, D.C., despite being under United States Secret Service protection.

Authorities said the bag contained several sensitive items, including her passport, driver’s license, apartment keys, a Department of Homeland Security access badge, and thousands in cash.

The hearing was part of congressional oversight of DHS during a politically tense period that included a partial government shutdown and disputes over immigration enforcement policies.

Democratic lawmakers sharply criticized Noem over issues including the fatal shooting of two Americans during an immigration enforcement incident in Minneapolis, alleged warrantless home searches by immigration agents, the purchase of luxury government aircraft, and a $220 million border-security advertising campaign tied to firms with Republican connections. Republicans on the committee largely defended Noem and praised the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown, arguing the policies had helped secure the southern border.
