Marjorie Taylor Greene predicts Donald Trump’s fate as ‘temporary president’ as she harps about loyalty while defying the POTUS

Marjorie Taylor Greene is eyeing the lifeboats in a sinking ship.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has called the proposed Continuing Resolution (CR) a “disloyalty” to the Donald Trump administration, even though the president himself is the one asking for it.

In a post on X, Greene argued that the GOP will be hawkeyed in checking who actually goes against the president’s wishes, but in her opinion, voting for the CR would actually be the best path forward for MAGA. The way Greene sees it, the CR is just a continuation of Biden policies, and it’s high time Trump’s administration gets its own appropriations bill if he doesn’t want to be a “temporary president.”

This aligns with Greene’s recurring pattern of occasionally challenging Trump. The most notable example was when she went on her own side quests to give a voice to Jeffrey Epstein’s victims — despite Trump calling the entire debacle a hoax that people simply needed to get over.

But it goes beyond just a misunderstanding of her role as an integral member of MAGA. Some political observers see her increasingly defiant positions as MTG forming her own brand of conservative politics. Of course, she’s still going to defend Trump’s 2020 Election claims and even fight for his “soul” against Laura Loomer. But Greene has taken stances so hardline that she even ended up being expelled from the House Freedom Caucus.

From Trump’s perspective, a “clean” short-term CR to maintain government funding until November will prevent a government shutdown just as voters are thinking about the midterms. Speaker Mike Johnson and other high-ranking figures in the GOP see this as the best path forward to maintain unity in their increasingly criticized faction of American politics.

Greene is always careful not to mention Trump directly — but figures like Speaker Johnson don’t enjoy the same privileges. Greene has already called out Johnson when accusing her party of losing touch with its people. Perhaps this is political maneuvering, as Greene positions herself as one of the only truly America First leaders left in the GOP, while never directly agitating MAGA.

Greene has also shifted her tune on the Israel-Gaza conflict, which has since been categorized by top global scholars and a special UN inquiry as a genocide. Greene now claims they can no longer stay silent when brutality spreads in the region. Yet not too long ago, she was adamant that anyone criticizing Israel on college campuses deserved some form of retribution.

Greene is growing into an enigmatic figure in conservative politics — unpredictable, and never quite easy to pin down. But her refusal to directly criticize Trump could be a telltale sign that she’s more strategic than meets the eye. In a sinking GOP, she’s eyeing the lifeboats while never making an enemy of the captain.

The shutdown deadline is Sept. 30, and as it slowly approaches, this standoff could evolve into a broader conflict within the GOP. It remains to be seen whether MTG’s gamble of going against Trump will pay off politically. For now, it seems more a matter of when rather than if MTG will ultimately be at loggerheads with the president directly.
