Mohamad Safa, a diplomat for the United Nations, has delivered a bleak message to the world after stepping down from his role and claiming that the UN is “preparing for possible nuclear weapon use in Iran.” His warning comes just days after he accused seniors of “serving a powerful lobby and not the UN.”
Safa was a high-ranking allied diplomat working for the United Nations prior to his decision to step away from the role last week. He claims that his reason for doing so revolves around possible nuclear weapon use.
In a post shared on X, Safa explained that there was a very real threat of nukes being used to potentially level Tehran, the capital of Iran. The former diplomat doesn’t elaborate on what exactly has convinced him this may be the case, but his willingness to surrender his own career has convinced many that he isn’t simply making this up.
He went on to explain that Tehran is, “not some low population desert. There are families, children, family pets.” The city has a population of close to 10 million people, dropping a nuclear bomb on the city would result in the loss of countless innocent lives, and yet, according to Safa, Trump and the U.S. government might actually be considering a nuclear option.
Safa accuses the UN of shielding the U.S. and Israel
On March 27th, Mohamad Safa announced his decision “to suspend all my duties as PVA Main Representative at the UN,” a high-ranking role which he had served in since 2013. In his resignation letter he elaborated on his decision, citing the UN’s reluctance to condemn the atrocities occurring in Gaza as a genocide and label the war in Iran as illegal. He claims that the organization does not want to accuse the U.S. and Israel of breaching international law.
This, coupled with the possibility of nuclear weapons has prompted Safa to step down and speak out against the organization.
Could nuclear weapons really be used against Iran?
Earlier this month the World Health Organization warned of a “worst-case scenario” which included nuclear weapons used against Iran. So it’s not just Safa claiming that the UN are preparing for such a potentiality, they’ve already admitted to considering such an outcome.
While it might seem far-fetched, we must take Safa’s warning seriously and many online already are. The conflict which the U.S. illegally started with the Middle-East country isn’t exactly going well for Donald Trump. In fact, many would go as far as to say the U.S. is losing. It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to believe that someone as small-minded and petty as Trump would go nuclear just to protect his own fragile ego.
In the end, Safa posits that “only the people can stop” the potential destruction that may be brought about by the U.S. conflict in Iran. He claims that spreading the message and protests such as the No Kings marches are the way to make the people’s voices heard. Hopefully he’s right.
